About the Poos Collection
One of the largest privately held quilt and textile collections in the world. It is named after Martha Poos, a grandmother who quilted and instilled her love of quilts to the curator Kay Triplett. Originally, the collection was compiled from estate sales and small antique shops. However, as the collection has grown, the variety of sources for the collection has grown as well.
It has a large collection of antique quilts with an emphasis on pre-1860 quilts. These vintage bed coverings can be divided into four main categories: white on white quilts, red and green quilts, indigo quilts, and chintz quilts. Some age appropriate vintage fabric is also a part of the collection.
Recent additions to the ever growing collection include folk art textiles and contemporary quilts. Many of these quilts are award winning for their use of fabric or artistry. The folk art textiles are from around the world with a particular emphasis and variety of West African textiles such as adire indigo or ashoke/aso oke, kente, and Ewe woven prestige cloths or garments.
About Quilt & Textile Collection
QTC was formed in 2011 entirely to manage and share the Poos Collection. Because many of the quilts and/or textiles are fragile, it isn’t possible to exhibit them on a regular basis. Nor is it possible for everyone to have access to the extensive collection. However, through books, presentations, and special exhibitions, the Poos Collection can be shared on a larger basis around the world.
Biographies of the QTC's Co-Founders
Lori Lee Triplett
LORI LEE TRIPLETT, Business Manager for Quilt and Textile Collections, has successfully combined a variety of passions which include research, writing, and performing into the quilt world. As a lecturer and instructor she brings her experience from stage, screen, and radio to make the presentations fun yet educational. She enjoys presenting at local quilt guilds, but also presents at national conferences and has made appearances internationally.
As an award winning writer, Lori has written more than 15 books and numerous magazine articles. Indigo Quilts, which covers the history of indigo from Africa to America was a winner of the Lucy Hilty Research Grant and the Meredith Scholar Award. The fourth quilt book Pioneer Quilts, was so successful it is now only available as an e-book or POD. Preliminary work for the fifth quilt book was awarded the H. Mark Dunn Research Grant and the Lucy Hilty Research Grant.
An art quilter, Lori prefers to work with hand dyed or hand painted fabric to create. Her art work has been featured in multiple exhibitions, websites, publications, and books. Her art can be found in private and corporate collections, as well as museums. She is an international award winning artist including from the National Endowment for the Arts: American Masterpiece. In 2018 she received the ARTSKC: Inspiration Grant for a community art project using quilted panels to decorate a playground fence in the inner city. She is currently creating quilts for two solo quilt exhibitions: Tree of Life and Indigo Images.
Kay Triplett
KAY TRIPLETT, Curator for Quilt and Textile Collections, which manages the Poos Collection one of the largest privately held quilt and textile collection in the world. The Collection has an emphasis on pre-1860 quilts from France, Britain, and the United States. These antique bed coverings are divided into main categories: album quilts, wool quilts, paper pieced, white on white whole cloth quilts, red and green quilts, indigo quilts, and chintz quilts. Some age appropriate vintage fabric is also a part of the collection.

This will be Kay’s fifth quilt book co-written with her sister, Lori Lee Triplett. The first two books Red and Green Quilts from the Poos Collection and Chintz Quilts from the Poos Collection are only available in limited quantities.
